Finished

I just finished knitting nautie. I did 11 tentacles instead of 8, and the eyes are natural shell beads. I am really pleased with how it turned out.

I need some nautie tentacles

I finished Nautie's body and head last night. I picked up stitches to knit the head instead of knitting it as a separate piece amd sewing it together. Nautie still needs at least 6 tentacles, and eyes. I will be making more of these guys - maybe a mini one?

Another toy

I decided to make the knitted nautilus toy from Knitty Magazine for a friends little boy. I Just started it tonight - slow going. Now that the pattern is established I think it will turn out really neat. I think I might knit more of them, so cute!

Boys & knitted toys

Here are a few pictures of the boys playing with their toys this morning. Linus gave his finished turtle a big kiss (makes all of the work worth it.)

Turtle, turtle, turtle...

Another project from Zoe Mellor's Knitted Toys. The main body was knit from Debbie Bliss cotton angora. Other yarns include alpaca, patons grace, purple wool, and jagger spun silk wool.
Alex picked this out for his brother. Linus came up and petted his shell as I was stitching it. I seamed it together than the book called for, and also stitched between the shell hexagons. The eye are pagoda beads (vintage swarovski) from my large horde of beads. I had a fun time making toys for my boys!

Alex is having an all important talk with Linus about cars. We all know how much Alex likes his cars (and Pink Floyd.)

Wylo the Dinosaur

Alex asked me to make him a knitted toy. I let him pick one out of Zoe Mellor's Knitted Toys. He named it Wylo even before it was finished. It was the first time I knit anything flat, and seamed it together. Alex likes her, so thats all that matters!

I knit her with Patons Grace and a rainbow yarn I have had since I was a kid. With size 3 needles and DPN's.

He Knits!

Alex has been really interested in learning how to knit. So I bought him some needles and yarn. He did really well listening, and remembering he steps. We just need to work on holding the needles and the yarn at the same time. Alex will be 5 in August.

A break from blanket

I decided to knit a hat last night for our friend Liz's baby - Sean Patrick. I used SWTC Karaoke mermaid mix - less than 1 ball. The pattern can be found here. I really like the colors of this yarn, but it can be difficult to work with. It is prone to breaks if there is too much tension.

A blanket for my nephew

I am working on a diamond blanket for my nephew Jacob. The pattern is from Fiber Trends easy knit baby blankets collection 1. I am halfway done with it - 7 more pattern repeats to go.

Birthday earrings

I love the earrings that Ethan's Aunt Marilynne gave me for my 30th birthday. How nice to have a piece of beautiful jewelry.

Happy Feet!

I just finished my first pair of socks. They are toddler sized (I think.)

Un-Happy Feet

So Alex wanted to see Happy Feet - it came the other day from Netflix. Some penguins sing sexy songs to each other then the chicks are born, 1 dances, the rest sing. Next thing - the dancing penguin is in the ocean trying not to get eaten. Dancing penguin somehow ends up in the zoo, then he dances. The people let him go. He goes home - he dances, all the penguins dance. The humans show up - fish for all. More stupid songs and dancing.

How did this movie win an Oscar - I normally love animated films, but this one was horrible.

Recycled sari silk scarf

I bought this beautiful yarn on eBay a while ago, and had no idea what to do with it. I started knitting a checkerboard pattern, but it really doesn't show up with the yarn. The colors are amazing. If anybody else has ideas for this yarn - let me know!

Pattern I used - CO 12
Row 1,3,5 - K4, p4, k4
row 2,4 - P4, k4, p4

Repeat rows until desired length

Shedir Hat finished

Here is my Shedir Hat - finally finished. It's a great pattern from Knitty Online Magazine. I worked 1 less cable repeat than the pattern called for, but it is still a little long. Either way - it was an interesting knit, and also the first time I used a chart instead of written instructions.

My first sock

Here is a picture of the first sock I have ever knit. It actually came out pretty well, and was a good experience. Since it was only a practice sock, it's really small. I hope to make larger, and more difficult socks soon.

Woohoo It's done!

I finally finished the scarf I was working on for my mom. She came out to visit me earlier this week for my birthday. I'm glad to finish another project.
